Chapan is a type of coat worn over clothes in Central Asia by women and men. Especially cherished are the high-class elegant chapans embroidered with gold and silver threading, or adorned with intricate designs and colorful patterns. Such chapans were commonly a luxury gift for Uzbek newlyweds since the middle ages. Throughout the history they were mostly worn by royal families and nobility. Also of great value are the sturdy cold-resistant Uzbek chapans famous for their extraordinary ability to keep people warm even in most severe winter weather. Such chapan can withstand the gravest cold winter winds. To this day, it is considered one of the most important articles of clothing throughout the entire region of Central Asia.
